Admission Process
Eligibility
Criteria
Bachelors degree or equivalent
in any discipline from a recognised university is the minimum
requirement for most of the institutes, however it may vary depending
upon the institute. Students appearing in their final year examinations
are also eligible to appear in the entrance examinations.
Stage - 1 : Written Test
Most of the tests are of two hours duration. They have multiple-choice objective type questions. Some of the tests have negative marking like CAT while some like CET in Maharashtra do not. The test is aimed at testing the candidate's aptitude in five core areas. They are :
Quantitative
Aptitude (QA)
The questions are based on various areas of pure mathematics such as arithmetic, geometry and algebra. The section would be more of a retro with questions on Number Systems, Profit and Loss, Averages, Progressions, Percentages, Work, Speed, Quadratic Equation, Maxima-Minima, Algebra, Geometry and Set Theory.
Verbal Ability
(VA)
This section is designed to test your understanding of English Language. The questions are based on vocabulary and grammar like synonym-antonym, verbal analogies, verbal reasoning, sentence sequencing, sentence correction, fill in the blanks and Paragraph ju mbles.
Reading
Comprehension (RC)
This section is designed to test your reading ability. How quickly you can read and understand. The questions are based on a passage of about 800 words. There are roughly 5-6 passages in this section. The topics range across astronomy, art, literature, civics etc.
Data Interpretation
(DI)
This section is designed to test your analyzing power from a given set of data. The questions are based on different forms of data representation like tables, line graphs, bar charts, pie charts etc. Extensive calculations are required. So you better be fast and clear with your basics like averages, percentages, interest etc.
Analytical
Reasoning (AR)
It would test your reasoning power. The questions would be based on Data Sufficiency, Deductive Reasoning and Puzzles.
General/Business
Knowledge (GK/BK)
This section is there in most of the cases. You need to be in touch with current affairs and business events. The questions would range from political events, scientific developments, awards etc.
Stage - 2 : Group Discussion & Personal Interview
The successful candidates from the last stage are short listed. This stage tests you for your overall personality aspects like communications skills, awareness, your analytical skills, and your poise composure during stress etc., through Group Discussions and Personal Interview.
Having a GD/PI is institute specific like IIM Bangalore includes a test on Essay writing during this phase, FMS Delhi includes an Extempore Speech, SP Jain, Mumbai have a Group Discussion, XLRI Jamshedpur has only Personal Interview, no GD.
